About Grundy EMS

 

Grundy EMS, Inc. is a non-profit organization that is classified as a Class "A" service as recognized by the Tennessee State EMS Division. The service has been recognized by the Tennessee Ambulance Service Association as Organization of the Year in 2002, and Advanced Life Support Ambulance Service of the Year for 2005.The Tennessee House of Representatives established a House Resolution recognizing our achievements in 2005, and Grundy EMS received the overall Tennessee Star of Life Award in 2015 along with other units that we coordinate with.

 

The service has two stations, one of which is located in Sewanee on the Domain of the University of the South and often provides coverage for University events such as football games, graduation ceremonies and equestrian events.The other of which serves as the primary base, is located in Coalmont, TN, and provides coverage for events such as high school sporting events, motocross races, and county events. Additionally, the Coalmont base provides coverage for seven state parks in which Grundy EMS provides medical support for all types of rescue missions. Both stations provide ALS service for the coverage area 24/7. The service covers 720 square miles for the rural areas of Grundy County, as well as the areas of Marion County and Franklin County that are located atop the Cumberland Plateau. The operation consists of 18 Paramedics and 6 AEMTs that operate 3 Advanced Life Support ambulances and 1 Basic Life Support ambulance.

 

Grundy EMS has a complete list of standing orders established by Dr. Matthew Petrilla, D.O. These orders include aggressive responses such as Rapid Sequence Intubation and Cricothotomy. The organization also has a thorough Quality Assurance program that receives every report, along with monthly in-service training that allows the Paramedics and EMTs to receive feedback for improvement as well as Continuing Education Units to maintain their state license, at no cost to the employee.
